Flooding in Venice

Every winter Venice gets flooded and the locals call it, Acqua Alta and this year is the worst for 30 years. The water rose to about 4 feet and boats were being paddled to get across Piazza San Marco. The city has taken steps to build up flood defenses in the lagoon but these will not be ready for another 3 years.
