This is a little simple Venetian restaurant in the Dorsoduro area and is one of our favourites as it serves excellent local Venetian specialities. (This has since moved to a new location during the pandemic).
They are part of the slow food movement celebrating seasonal food. For the last 15 years, we eat here at least once on every visit to Venice. The meals we have had here have never failed to surprise and have always been of the highest quality, using seasonal produce. This kitchen is headed up by a lady chef and her team.
Usually, we order a plate of antipasti of either vegetables or the fish and seafood. If you are unsure of what to order, you can see a selection of what is available in the little glass cabinet on the bar counter when you come in. The wine list if made up of local wines from the region and they will recommend something to match the food.
This is followed by an enormous shared plate of seafood pasta, usually dependent on what was available at the market that morning. This has never failed to surprise and please.
There is a small selection for dessert. The last time we had an amazing chocolate panna cotta, deliciously rich and so satisfying.
We never miss this place when we go to Venice. A testament to the quality of the food, the last time we were here for lunch, a very stylish Italian couple were eating here on the recommendation of an Italian gourmet guide. We met this couple again at a few of our other favourite Venetian restaurants too, so our favourite non-touristy restaurants in Venice are loved my Italians too.
Their new location is not on a busy alleyway and they now have tables outside too. Since it was featured in Stanley Tucci’s programme, it has seen a surge of new customers. But it is not that big so it is advisable to book a table.
